When I Really Began To Master The Ultimate Hypnotic Pattern … Magic Started To Happen
Top salespeople, great political leaders, wildly successful motivational speakers … they all have a secret.
It's the same "secret" used by the greatest hypnotherapists, the most elegant communicators, and the most effective coaches, master influencers, charmers and leaders throughout the ages…
The advertising industry regularly uses this "secret" to induce a powerful sense of desire and get people to buy the product.
It is used to influence us all the time, and yet, most people aren't even aware of it!
We all heard stories as children and as soon as someone begins to tell you story, it invokes a memory of a cozy childhood, and sends a message to your unconscious mind that says, “It's story time. Snuggle up in your blanket and break out the milk and cookies!”
You see, hearing a story is anchored to that sense of warmth, safety and possibility we experience as children and when you hear a story, it sends a message to your neurology that says:
“Sit back, relax, and enjoy this ride all the way to the end.”
You may have guessed by now that this "secret" used by top salespeople, great politicians, successful motivational speakers, hypnotherapists, the most effective coaches and the advertising industry is in fact...
But, as you'll discover when you read on … there's much more to it than that!
When you stop to think about it, you'll realise that metaphors are all around you. In fact, metaphors are part of the structure of how every human being thinks … but that's another story ;-)
Metaphors are probably the most powerful to succeed in reframing. When you use metaphors to change the meaning of something instantly in someone's mind, it's effortless, rapid and intensely effective.
By the way … in NLP terms, we use the term metaphor "loosely" to cover many things including Metaphors, Similes, Stories, Anecdotes, Tall tales, Factual explanations, and even Jokes!
Maybe a university lecturer would have words with me over definitions, but hey ! It's more important to be able to do this stuff than it is to comply with narrow, precise, theoretical, grammatical definitions.
While metaphors are incredibly valuable for anyone involved in management, communication or the area of influence, they are absolutely indispensable for coaches, hypnotherapists and other people-helpers.
Here's what Steven Heller, Ph.D (top hypnotherapist) said in his superb book “Monsters & Magical Sticks: There's No Such Thing As Hypnosis”:
It is my belief that all presenting problems and symptoms are really metaphors that contain a story about what the problem really is. It is, therefore, the responsibility of the therapist to create metaphors that contain a story that contains the (possible) solutions. The metaphor is the message … Hypnosis is, in and of itself, a metaphor inside a metaphor
It seems that Milton H Erickson MD (aka “The Miracle Worker”) had a similar view, and pioneered the use of metaphor in hypnosis. Any analysis of the "greats" of NLP will show extensive use of metaphor throughout their work.
Some time ago, we found that on just about every course, someone ... and often several people .... would ask : “What are the secrets of metaphor?”
So we created a one-day training course called "Metaphorically Speaking", recorded it and made an audio recording of the day.
Just wanted to thank you for the time we spent together on Monday. I can honestly say it was the most helpful, relevant and effective coaching/training/therapy I have ever had by some way. Great to meet you and look forward to a continued relationship. [Rob Taylor, Head of Field Sales, Caudwell Communications]
Salad's approach has enabled me to reach greater understanding and skill in NLP, through lots of guided practice in small groups. If you want a clear and engaging way to learn NLP here it is. [Christopher Davies, Trainer & Coach]
Now, it would be easy for me to say :
“This recording is the fastest way you"ll learn how to become a master of metaphor” or
“All my clients have gone on to do wonderful things with the material you'll get from this audio”
But I don't assume you are willing to simply take my word for it. So, instead here's a selection of praise from people who attended the training:
The more I learn, the more I see the relevance in all areas of life, not just business. Life changing stuff! [Guy Peters, Project Manager]
Very useful day. I learned things I can put into practice straight away. [Paul Browning, Marketing Specialist]
A great day of intensive training, and a lot of fun too. [Dave Rose, Hypnotist & NLP Master Practitioner]
As usual, let's start by saying who it isn't for.
This recording isn't for people who just want the theory but don't want to get their hands dirty.
